Cosmo Hump Day…Sex Toys

Surfing the Cosmo Sex/Love articles and came across a goodie…  Sex toys you’ve got to try. Okay. I know right… why wouldn’t a naughty erotic writer not read this article. Let me tell you, yes I learn something new today. I just may have to put some of these fun toys in my next book.

So here are a few of toys that were novel worthy.
Bondage Tape

Bondage tape, sicks to only itself and not to your skin or hair. This holds so many possibilities in my stories. Of course when I saw this, my thoughts went to the third book in my series and the underground sex and blood clubs. This will be a great way cover and reveal skin and veins.

Me Vibe II

Me Vibe ii

The next one, Me Vib,  is interesting and could play nicely into a playfully naughty scene of stimulation. I’m still playing with the ideas,  but I think it would interesting to see a scene where the male is pleasing the female or more to the point the female is stimulating herself while the hero is watching. Love when inspiration strikes.

Lavish Nipple Clamps

Nipple Clamps. This is interesting because of all the different varies you can get in Nipple Clamps. Resently, I used nipple clamps in a short vampire bondage erotic novella for my publisher. In the novella, I used the run of the mill silver nipple clamps. Wish I would have done a more little digging, because these would have put more depth to my character.

There were many more sex toys to read about. Some could work for my novels, some not so much. But it sure is fun to be inspired. 😉

For more Sex Toys you’ve gotta try, read more at Cosmopolitian. Happy reading on Cosmo Hump Day.

Behind Intoxication Release Today

Intoxication Addicted to Fang book 1 by Dena de Paulo

Available at Ravenous Romance!

Writing Intoxication was part therapy, part-fantasy. It’s been said a million times that paranormal ideas help people deal with hard emotional concepts.

I’m going to take the party line here and say…Yupp that’s me. This novel was my lifesaver this past year.

Normally, I don’t divulge into the privacy of my personal life, but I find talking about the reason behind this novel isn’t complete without the whole picture. I wrote this novel in a purge of a moment, desperate to get emotions off my chest. It took me one month to write close to fifty thousand world, then it took two months to get it revised correctly. When I pitched it to Lori Perkins she told me I was a purge writer.

Last year, my husband was diagnosis with cancer, and during the time I wrote this book,  I sat next to him during chemo treatments, my house was over ran with caring loving family members and I struggled each day to keep a stable happy front for all my family, my children and especially my husband. This book as out there as it is, helped me get those weird emotions I struggled with under control. My life was so out of the box that I wrote out of the box. I would sit there and say, how can I make this even more extreme and I would write it. So sometimes even with all the craziness in the world, some good can come from it.

Cosmo Hump Day, Amping up sex scenes

Intimate Couple In Action, by imagerymajestic

For the past few weeks, I’m finding myself surfing Cosmo’s website. It’s helping me define some of the sex scenes I’ve written so far in my WIP. This book is forcing me out my comfort zones. It’s my first true menage book. And it’s an erotic romance. Not only do I have to get all three together, they have to bond, form connections… true connections. These scenes have to move their relations, and the plot forward. I can’t just have it there, just for the fun of it. Right????

Right. So from time to time I’m take a deeper look into the mechanics of the sex scene trying to add that heightened emotion into it while amping up the sexual tension. I found some great ideas on Cosmo. I just finished a scene this past weekend when I checked out the Sex/Love section on Cosmo’s website. The article was Things to say in bed. Clicking through the seven slides, I hit one that screamed my characters. Adding a similar saying into the scene put that heightened tension into the scene. I can’t believe how simple one sentence can take the scene up so much.

Wow. So I’m creating my Cosmo Hump Day on the blog. Just for the little things in Cosmo that inspire me to take my scenes that extra distance. The articles remind me to add that extra bit of reality into the written fantasy.

Breaking through a sexual road block when #writing, #erotica

Every now and then, my characters stand around twiddling their thumbs while saying… “I don’t know, whatcha wanna do?”

Errr, this can be beyond frustrating. Of course, this always seems to happen during the naughty sexy scenes. They need to get it on, the scene has built up to it, the tension is there, but they are just twiddling their thumbs. Talk about blue balls and empty cores.

Some things I do to help me out, because erotic romance is fantasy and mine deal with vampires. Hot and wild. A way for me to keep the scenes fresh and interesting is pulling out Cosmo. Yes, right, Cosmo. Believe it or not, the helps. Really.

Cosmo doesn’t tell me what to do, but gives me hot ideas that I can transform into steamy hot and oh-so-fun sex scenes. Right now, they are running a 30 things to do with a naked man.

After reading a few, I realize several of the thirty are already in my book. So now, I just need to pick a few that aren’t. And ohhh, it’s going to be fun. So far I like several of the 30 things.

I may have to add #1, #2 and #7 in the book or all three in one scene. What’s your favorite things to do with a naked man?

What type of #Bookcover do you want to see?

Much debate has been had over what type of erotic book cover the average reader would like to see. From the current market sales it looks like the new mainstream model is the simplistic type following along the guide lines of 50 Shades of Grey. Most of the top erotic romances on the top 100 have similar book covers with little flesh so obviously apparent.

I’ve asked many new readers to the genre, thanks to 50 shades, what they would pick up to read on their e-readers or in book form and across the board, they are looking for book covers that are NOT overly sexual in nature. They want something you won’t know it’s naughty if you saw the cover. They don’t mind say… two people entwined if the cover was washed over with a color so you had to really look at it tell it was entwined lovers.

They are coming from the stand point of being mothers, wives, daughters, of being private. Yes, our general acceptance of nude images have changed over the years, but we are still puritans at the heart and what some dignity. There has been many conversions over the summer of 50 shades from everyone, book clubs, pool side, vacation… heck everyone had an opinion. One reader told me she was at the beach and on just about every towel was a “Grey” book. She said if the cover was more sensational it probably won’t have been that way.

So do the reader’s really want the simplistic covers that don’t advertise the sexual aspect as fully? I think so. I happened to be in Target the other day and stopped in front of a book end cap. Just to test this theory, all  the books on that end cap were erotic romance, but not one had people, body parts or anything other that could be seen as sexual on the covers. The covers where basic drab colors with an single tangible item on the front, ie…  cuff links, ties… Some covers were just of satin texture with the title of the book and the name of the author.

Even USA Today did a fabulous article, Publishing world is turned on by ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ By Deirdre Donahue,    on the how 50 Shades has changed the publishing world. Personally, I think it’s just helped the erotic genre adapt to mainstream, in a more acceptable visible way. The genre is still high octane living on the edge of sexual heaven, but it’s helped our puritan mindset with a more acceptable book cover.

What are your thoughts? Do you mind seeing the flesh covered, explicit covers or do you prefer the more simplistic plain covers?

Stuck in between a hard place and a much harder place. :)

Writing for me is like purging the story from my imagination. Once the process starts, thousands of words can flow in a giving hour of time. But when my imagination says hold up buddy… I’m stuck.

I’ve been stuck for a while now. But this past week, I joined my local RWA chapter’s motivation book in a week. And well. I’ve written over 8,000 words. It’s great, but I’ve once again found myself stuck in a scene. It’s a love scene between two vampires and one human. This shouldn’t be that hard 😉 of a scene, but it really is, because my books revolve around the romance. And in this triangle not all three of them are in Love with each other, but they are definitely in high LUST with each other.

Years ago, I took a workshop about writing sex scenes from, it opened my eyes to a new way of understanding sex scenes. Sex scenes are like any other scene, the key is they must move the plot line along or what is the purpose. Yeah… Lust, Love and hot sex… must move the plot line along. Ummmm. Pulling brain straight out of the gutter, shaking it off and shoving it back in my head.

Now you see why I’m stuck between a hard place and much harder place. I need to move the story along, but my muse is screaming they need to have sex, and I don’t just want them to have sex for sex sake. Now, I’m stuck right where the 3rd party comes in and sees the loves of his life engaged horizontally.

I need to make this scene over the top, but they gotta get it on, so should I go the jealous route, the jump right-on-in route, or the drama-king route or something I haven’t imaged yet.

The scene is on fire, the couples are new to each other. They need time to bond. Maybe the 3rd shouldn’t come in, but I love over the top drama. And it adds a little conflict.

Time to get writing, and hopefully my muse will come out and play. I’m willing to hear any and all suggestions.;)

Reaching for the numbers

It’s getting naughty up in here. I’m reaching for my new writing goal, in the next two weeks I want to write 20k.Like I can go to the store and pick up 20,000 words. Yeah right.

My conflict… I’m a stay at home mom, with two really active tweens. Between all the taxi driving I put in the day, I have to find at least two full hours a day to devote to only writing. Not exercising, cleaning, volunteering, but writing. And it’s not just normal romance, it the dirty, naughty kind of romance. It’s the edge of spanking hot romance. Not something I can write with tweens looking over my shoulder asking what does “cock” mean?

So here I must focus my energy on my writing. And just do it. Firmly plan my brain in the gutter and let my muse run free. Here’s to 20k in two weeks.

Goals and the new year

It’s a new year everyone has made their resolution and I’ve procrastinated. But it’s new year and I’ve made a goal for myself. Well, one of many. 🙂 My main goal is a blog post a week.

Painted with Pleasure will be featured on Jan 21st on this hot and sexy blog for erotic romance Rachel Leigh Blog. And I’ll be giving away a copy of Painted with Pleasure. This amazing author’s homebase is in UK. So I hope to see all of you there. Totally sweet to be blogging here in NY and having it based in the UK. Today’s internet really given us the ability to be in touch with the world around us. It really is a small world after all.

With Painted with Pleasure on the market, I have a little bit of  time to figure out what I’m going to write next. It will be an exciting avenue of thought to say the least. Winter finally announced its presence to our hometown here with a vengeance. We went from 50 degree weather then twelve hours later six inches of snow. But I’m not complaining because the best time of year for my creative juices to flow is winter. There is something about cozy winter days that calls to seating in front of the computer with my cafe con leche and just typing. So bring on the snow. 🙂

Maybe my next erotic novel will have a hot snow scene in it. Could you image a couple heating up the snow? Perhaps two competition skiers are out in the snow and when a storm rolls in too fast. They are left out in the cold and have to find shelter… But they find that they are not only fighting for the trophy of cross-country skiing, but also they have been fighting the their mutual attraction and they find a way to stay warm through the snow storm. Ohhh. I love the stream of thought. Maybe I just found my inspiration for my next steamy novel.

I may have to tinker it a bit, but it’s a great potential spicy concept. 🙂

Sexy new title search!

I heard back from the editor and the revisions are acceptable and promising. The kicker is… I need a new title. This is the hard part, because titles are like book covers, they have to draw the reader in, hook them in just a few words.  I can write a book, cry tears of joy once it’s done, but titles… rrrrr. What do I do? My novel is set in Spain has a Texan heroine and a Spanish Artist Hero. It’s hot and steamy, but the title…
My critique group helped me out with a list of 10 titles. I like some of them, it’s so hard to choose.  So let this be a lesson… never marry yourself to your title, it probably will change.  I’m definitely not married to my title, I’m just having a hard time coming up with a new title that doesn’t sound so cliché.

Thinking caps on, fingers to the keyboard. If you have any suggestions, mores the welcome.
